Notre Dame golfers headed to state tourney

CROWLEY – The Notre Dame golf team placed second at the Division III Region I tournament in Shreveport last week.

The Pios carded a score of 332 to claim runnersup honors behind regional champion Loyola (297).

Kyle Camp fired the best round of the group with a 79. Jordan Owens shot an 83 and he was followed by Willaim Mahaffey (84), John David Nickel (86) and Kyle Guidry (88).

By placing second in the regional, the Pios earned a team entry into the Division III state tournament that begins today at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Zachary.

Division III Region II

Church Point also earned a team entry into the state tournament after carding a 397 to place third in the Division III Region II. Parkview won the regional with a score of 311.

Church Point’s team consists of Ben Viator, Brock Latiolais, Jake Morvant, Hunter Wimberly and Alex Fenske.

Rayne’s Cory Johnson will also be competing in the state tournament after qualifying with a fifth-place score of 80.
