Guillory’s blast off of Shea Zaunbrecher cut Crowley’s lead to 4-3 at the time and gave the visitors a ray of hope against the defending Southwest Super Regional champions.
Those hopes were dashed in the bottom of he inning, however.
Crowley, the host team of the 2012 Pony Super Regional Tournament, belted out two home runs of their own in the bottom of the frame and scored six runs en route to a 10-3 victory.
The victory sends Crowley into tonight's winner’s bracket finals against Jennings. That game is slated for 8 p.m.
“They (Mamou) were still in the game at 4-2 but they really got back in it with the home run,” said Crowley coach Timmy Robichaux. “It was good for us to come back and answer. We finally drove some balls. Most of the game, we were leaving a lot of balls down on the ground.
“And the best thing about it was it gave us a lead where Shea could stay in the game.”
Crowley’s six-run inning was sparked by Pete Brown’s one-out bunt single. Taylor Faulk then stepped to the plate and drove a 2-1 fastball over the left center field way for a two-run home run.
John Riley Mouton kept the inning going with a single to center before Alex Ashby drew a walk, forcing Mamou to make a pitching change.
Corey Bordelon took over on the mound and was greeted by Joe Faulk, who crushed a 2-1 offering over the center field wall for a three-run blast.
Crowley added an insurance run when Bubba Daigle singled in Sam Hoffpauir three batters later.
Mamou threatened to rally again in the top of the seventh when Zaunbrecher gave up a leadoff single and then walked the second batter he faced. But he responded with back-to-back strikeouts and then sat Guillory down on strikes following a walk to end the game.
Pate Broussard earned the victory on the mound after giving up two runs on four hits and one walk. He struck out seven in four innings of work.
“Pate was really on,” said Robichaux. “He hadn’t pitched in a little while because he had some tenderness in his arm so this was his first time back. He had a fresh arm and he did a great job.”
Zaunbrecher worked the final three innings and allowed one run on two hits. He walked four and struck out five.
“Shea came on and threw strikes right away,” said Robichaux. “That’s what really kind of set the tone for us and he threw the ball well until our hitters took over the game.”
Offensively, Crowley had 10 hits in the contest.
Mouton led the charge with three hits, including a double, while Faulk had a single and a three-run homer. Faulk had a home run and two RBI while Ashby, Hoffpauir, and Daigle each had one hit and one RBI. Brown also had a single.
“You know, we did hit some balls hard tonight but we just haven’t really hit the ball yet like we’re capable of,” said Robichaux. “We’re very capable of hitting the ball one through nine and that’s what we’re going to need to do in order to win this tournament.”
