Rayne—A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles Joseph Trahan, 67, of Rayne will be celebrated on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Kendal Faulk will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery #2.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 ,from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. in Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne, with a rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., and on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Mr. Trahan passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2012, in a Crowley hospital.

A native of Roberts Cove, Mr. Trahan had been a lifelong resident of the Rayne area. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he lived out his faith through his service as a church usher, and where he formerly worked to assist in setting up the church for Mass.

Mr. Trahan worked as an assembler for WalMart for several years. His prior work experience included jobs at Southern Pacific Trucking and Arkansas Best Freight Company.

Mr. Trahan’s greatest accomplishments and joy were realized through his work as a coach at Frog Capital Boxing Club in Rayne. For nearly 40 years he served as mentor, role model, friend, and father-figure to untold numbers of youth as he coached them in the art of boxing. The lives he has touched and altered are multi-generational, as those he has recently coached are the children and grandchildren of some of his former boxers.

As a boxing coach, Mr. Trahan has coached some who have gone on to become professional boxers. He has coached many Golden Gloves and Junior Olympic boxers. Mr. Trahan accompanied several members of Frog Capital Boxing Club to Ireland to box, and he has taken boxers to many other locations. He will be greatly missed by the entire community, especially those at Frog Capital Boxing Club.

Survivors include his sisters, Lula St. Germain, Lois Breaux and husband, George, and Emma Cormier and husband, Stafford, all of Roberts Cove; nieces, Janice Berchim and husband, Lawrence, of Brandon, MS, Wanda Bishoff and husband, Tracy, of Richland, MS, Pam Hollingsworth and husband, Jimmy Ray, of Rayne, Wendy Cahanin of Roberts Cove, and April Thibodeaux (also his godchild) of Roberts Cove; nephews, Terry St. Germain of Roberts Cove, Clyde Breaux (also his Godchild) and wife, Sonya of Lafayette, Chad Cormier and wife, Michelle of Crowley, and Chris Cormier and wife, Kyla of Branch; great-nieces, Sara Hollingsworth (also his Godchild) of Rayne, Angelle Hollingsworth of Pickensville, AL, Gretchen Breaux of Lafayette, Shelby St. Germain of Rayne, Emily Cahanin of Roberts Cove, Angelina Bishoff of Richland, MS, Olivia Cormier of Branch, Abbie Cormier of Branch, Hanna Breaux of Lafayette, Haylee Breaux of Lafayette, and Rebekah Breaux of Lafayette; great-nephews, Nick Cormier of Crowley, Lance Cormier of Crowley, Jacob Breaux of Lafayette, and Bruce Bishoff of Richland, MS; great-great-niece, Paisley Breaux of Lafayette; godchild, Drake Joseph of Rayne; and a host of other relatives, friends, and those who looked to him as a father.

Preceding Mr. Trahan in death were his parents, Odelion and Julia Dupuis Trahan; and nephew/Godchild, Bruce St. Germain.

Serving as pallbearers are Clyde Breaux, Terry St. Germain, Chad Cormier, Chris Cormier, Gerald LaGrange, Ceasar Dupuis, Mason Menard, and Drake Joseph. Named as honorary pallbearers are boxers, Alyza, Andrea, Donavon, Nakil, Brock, Sean, Nick, Bryce, Dylon, Carlston, Blaklyn, Kintrell, Andra, Byron, and Layton, and fellow coaches, Cory, Walter, and Chad.
