ACADIA PARISH – Schools and government offices will be closed Monday to observe the Labor Day holiday.

Government offices closing include Crowley City Hall, the Acadia Parish Police Jury and both city and parish courthouses.

As it is a federal holiday, there will also be no mail delivery on Monday.

Most banks will also close Monday to observe Labor Day.

IESI has already announced that trash collection will be suspended Monday and delayed the rest of the week (Monday’s waste will be picked up Tuesday and so forth). The company expects to be back to normal by Monday, Sept. 10.

What will not be closed, however, is most stores, as several are already boasting “Labor Day sales.”

Restaurants will also not be closed Monday.

Locally, residents may want to take advantage of the day off and visit Crowley Cinema IV which will be open with special hours for movie showings.

Labor Day is a federal holiday observed in America the first Monday in September. It celebrates the economic and social contributions and achievements of American workers.

It also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans. Typically, Labor Day is celebrated with parties, parades and athletic events.
