Well service owner

LAFAYETTE – Services will be Wednesday for well service company owner Lewis Kellogg. He died Sept. 9 at age 85.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and established and operated Dove Well Service and Kellogg Tools until he retired. He was on the national board of Well Service Contractors and the board of United General Insurance. He was president of the Lafayette Senior Men’s Golf Association for many years.

Survivors include his wife Virginia and four daughters.

Arts council director

BATON ROUGE – Services will be Saturday for Arts Council Executive Director Derek Gordon. He died Sept. 10 at age 57.

Before taking the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge post he was president and CEO of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City and senior vice president at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

He was on the board of the East Baton Rouge Parish and the Center for Planning Excellence.

Long-time coroner

ST FRANCISVILLE – Services are pending for long-time West Feliciana Coroner Dr. Alfred Gould . He died Saturday at age 84.

He was coroner from 1969 to 1987, and again from 2000 to 2006. He practiced medicine for more than 50 years.

Optometrist, aviator

DENHAM SPRINGS – Services for optometrist Dr. Earl Bennett will be Tuesday. He died Sept, 7 at age 89.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and part owner of Tigerland Aviation and an aerobatic aviator. He was on the board of the Louisiana State Association of Optometrists and past president of the Louisiana Lions Club.

Pilgrimage organizer

ST. FRANCISVILLE – Service for civic leader Lucille Leake will be Wednesday. She died Sept. 10 at age 99.

She was a founding member of the West Feliciana Historical Society and first chairman of the Audobon Pilgrimage in 1972. She was a founder of the Southern Garden Symposium and director of the Red Cross swimming program. She was a former West Feliciana Parish Citizen of the Year.

Survivors include a son and a daughter.

Ob/gyn

SHREVEPORT – Services for ob/gyn Dr. Oscar “Skeeter” Berry, Jr. will be Wednesday. He died at 79.

He was co-founder with the late Dr. William Kalmack of Women’s Clinic and at one time served as president of the medical staff at Christus Schumpert Medical Center; president of the medical and dental staff of Confederal Memorial Medical Center (now LSU Health); and member of the board of governors at Christus Schumpert. He was a member of the team that performed the first In Vitro procedure in North Louisiana.

Survivors include his wife Susan, a son and two daughters.
