WESTLAKE – The Iota Lady Bulldogs continued their winning ways last weekend, cruising to four straight victories to claim the Westlake Tournament title.
The Lady Dogs easily defeated LaGrange (25-5, 25-14) and DeQuincy (25-18, 25-19) on the opening day of the tournament Thursday and Sulphur (25-12, 25-10) and Northside Christian (25-20, 25-11) on Saturday.
The latter game was for the tournament championship.
With the victories, Iota improved to 5-0 on the season.
In the championship game, the Lady Dogs were led by Madison Meche and Mallory Faul.
Meche logged seven kills while Faul had five kills, six aces and 14 assists.
Madison Benoit had three kills and four blocks while Mallory Faul, Taylor DeVille, Emily Navarre and Erika Manuel each added three kills.
Also contributing in the victory were Melinda Russell with 24 digs and Claire LeJeune, Paige Soirez and Jillian Boone with 10 digs each.
Northside won its first three games to advance to the finals. The Lady Warriors defeated Westlake (25-20, 26-24), Vinton (25-11, 25-22) and Hamilton Christian (25-12, 25-11) before falling to Iota.
Mia Mier and Madisyn Clement each had three kills in the championship game. Mier also had six digs and one block while Clement had nine digs, one ace and six assists.
Also contributing for the Lady Warriors were Natalie Hayes (2 kills, 10 digs), Maddison Conrad (2 kills, 8 digs, 2 aces, 6 assists), Kristen Spell (1 kill, 10 digs), Mallary Vincent (1 kill, 8 digs, 1 ace) and Leah Monte (1 kill, 13 digs).
Notre Dame’s Lady Pios won three games at the Episcopal of Baton Rouge tournament before falling to St. Joseph’s in the finals.
The Lady Pios defeated St. Michael, Lafayette High and Academy of Sacred Heart - New Orleans.
Crowley High was also in action this weekend. The CHS Ladies split a pair of games in the Carencro Tournament, defeating Northwest before falling to Leesville.
No other information was made available by the schools on those games.
