BOURG -- Rob Neil's first gator was a behemoth.

The Montegut commercial fisherman had to shoot his catch 15 times with a .22 rifle before boating it Wednesday.

The alligator was 12 feet long and weight 800 pounds.

It fell to bait placed by Neil, 35, in the Intracoastal Waterway here.

Neil said sold the gator to Big Al’s Seafood restaurant in Houma for $350.

Al Mahler, owner of Big Al’s, said he will serve the meat from Neil’s catch on his restaurant tables.

The skin will be exported France for clothing, shoes, purses and other products.
