Police say he stabbed Demetra Doyle Heard multiple times Friday night, then fled and was eventually captured by Shreveport police waiting for him to return to roost there.
He and Demetra Doyle, 35, married in June, eleven months after Heard was released from prison after serving eight years for attempted second degree murder.
Heard, when he was 15, killed a 17-year-old classmate at Reseda (Calif.) High School at school. He served seven years in a juvenile facility and was released in February 2002, according to public records.
The victim was the brother of actress Niecy Nash.
Within a year, Heard was charged with the attempted murder in Shreveport.
Neighbors described the the newlyweds as less than blissful in the two months since their marriage.
One who knew them said the husband was "mean, just plain evil."
Another, Anabelle Godfrey, told media that "Whatever they went through or been going through" the victim never let it show."
She noted the murder left the victim's children motherless with no father they can depend on.
Heard attempted to elude Shreveport police at mid-day Saturday and was captured after crashing his car during a high-speed chase.
Charged with first-degree murder, he will be in lineup in Opelousas on Monday. Ordinarily bond is not set in first-degree cases.
Information from police did not indicate what the motive for the stabbing might have been.
The 111 Prairie Street house is the same one in which Gerald Bellard killed Delores Wilkes during an argument while they were drinking together.
Bellard was formally charged with manslaughter in that case.
