Church Point upends Cecilia

CECILIA – The Church Point Bears rushed for 288 yards on their way to a 23-3 victory over the Cecilia High Bulldogs here Friday night.

The Bears (3-0) fell behind 3-0 on a 25-yard field goal by Cecilia kicker Drake Frederick with 3:24 left in the first quarter.

But the Bears scored with 2:14 left in the first half on James Bellard’s 24-yard run and Kian Richard’s PAT kick to take a 7-3 lead they would never relinquish.

Bellard ran for one-yard touchdown with 5:03 left in the third quarter and Richard added the PAT for a 14-3 lead.

The Bears then added a safety to increase their lead to 16-0.

The final Church Point score came in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run by Devin Landry. Richard again added the PAT to make it a 23-3 final.

Bellard led the Bears with 145 yards on 15 rushes. Landry added 85 on 14 carries.
