Nine-year-old Sa'nigh Woods, a South Rayne Elementary student, was supposed to return from school on the bus Tuesday afternoon like any other day. But, when she didn't Tuesday afternoon her parents called both the school and the bus transportation service to no avail. From information acquired, Sa'nigh bored the wrong bus and her parents say the bus driver dropped her off miles from where she should have been.

Her parents ended up calling the police, told them the situation. In addition, her father, Dalton Thibeaux started driving around the city hoping to see the bus and/or his daughter. Soon after, he and Sa'nigh's family heard that police had found his daughter trying to walk home.

The police found the young girl walking near The Boulevard and Wiltz St, then got her home safely - sweaty and crying - but safe and safe

In addition to not knowing where to go and the amount of time in the afternoon heat, Sa'nigh has sickle cell anemia. Her parents say that the long walk home on a hot afternoon, along with this disease, could have made this a disastrous situation. On her walk home, she stopped at the Iberia Bank off of Boulevard to get water.

It's unclear why Sa'nigh got on the wrong bus and if the bus driver knew it was the wrong spot.

Student Transportation Specialists runs the bus program for the Acadia Parish School System.
