A pickup towing a horse trailer pulled into the path of motorcycle at Cash Magic on U.S. 190 East early Sunday, killing the Eunice bike driver and his passenger.

According to State Police, Ronald Bellard, 52, was driving the Honda three-wheel motorcycle west about 12:30 a.m. as it approached Cash Magic near Industrial Drive.

The front of Bellard’s vehicle struck the side of the horse trailer being towed by David Deweer, 42, of Geismar.

Bellard died at the scene. His passenger, Carla Barras, 52, of Opelouas died at Acadian Medical Center. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Reports did not indicate how Deweer did not see the oncoming motorcycle.

It is unknown, troopers said, if impairment was a factor in the crash; routine toxicology samples are being analyzed.

Charges are pending outcome of the investigation.
