State Police investigate officer involved shooting in St. Martinville

SAINT MARTINVILLE- On Saturday morning, the St. Martinville Police Chief contacted Louisiana State Police Detectives and requested that they investigate a shooting which involved an Officer with her agency.

The initial investigation indicated that on October 13, 2012, at about 3:54 a.m., an Officer with the St. Martinville Police Department responded to a call about suspicious person in the 800 block of South Main Street. The officer arrived at the location and encountered 24-year-old Terrell Simon of St. Martinville. The Officer was attempting to take Simon into custody when a struggle ensued. During the struggle, Simon attempted to gain control of the Officer’s weapon. As the struggle continued, one round was fired.

After being taken into custody, Simon was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. The Officer was also treated for minor injuries. Neither Simon nor the Officer were injured in the gunfire.

Simon was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail by State Police for attempted disarming of a peace officer.

This case remains under investigation.
