FRANKLIN – A truck driver died when his vehicle left US 90 and sank in a canal.

State Police said Roderick Preston, 34, of Franklin was driving an 18-wheeler loaded with harvested sugar cane when he lost control about 1 p.m. Saturday, drove through the median, crossed the west-bound lane and frontage road and went into Hansen Canal.

The truck cab became totally submerged and it was recovered about 10 hours later.
