NCS tops Family Christian in playoff opener

CROWLEY – The Northside Christian Lady Warriors are one step closer to the 2012 state volleyball tournament thanks to a straight sets bi-district playoff victory over Family Christian Thursday evening at Seth Trahan Memorial Gym.

The Lady Warriors, seeded No. 12 in Division V, won the first set, 25-23, before closing out the match with back-to-back 25-22 victories.

Freshman middle hitter Kathryn Zaunbrecher led the Lady Warriors with 14 kills, one dig and two blocks. Senior outside hitter Mia Mier added eight kills, 33 digs and two aces while senior middle hitter Kristen Spell logged seven kills and 31 digs.

Also contributing in the victory were Natalie Hayes (4 kills, 63 digs, 1 ace), Mallory Vincent (2 kills, 35 digs, 2 assist), Leah Monte (2 kills, 27 digs, 1 ace) and Maddison Conrad (14 digs, 2 aces, 29 assist).
