LOCKPORT – Services for former Orleans and Houma-Thibodaux diocesan official Rev. Msgr. James Songy will be Wednesday. He died Dec. 5 at age 82.
He was formerly comptroller of the Archdiocese of New Orleans and was first chancellor of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. He was vicar general of the diocese at retirement. He pastored churches in Slidell, Lockport and Houma.
Survivors include a sister and a brother.

Educator, coach
BATON ROUGE – Services for former educator and participant in two of World War II’s most important invasions Bertrum Dykes will be Tuesday. He died Dec. 8 at age 90.
He was a US Navy veteran of World War II who participated in D-Day and int he invasion of Okinawa.
After the war, he was the MVP of Southwestern’s (UL-Lafayette) football team two different seasons. He was the first industrial arts teacer in East Baton Rouge Parish and coached football at two junior high schools. He was principal at Broadmoor High for 13 years.
Survivors include his wife Marilynn, two sons and a daughter.
