CROWLEY – Erin Trahan may only be a freshman, but she is already making a big splash on the Notre Dame varsity swim team.

Trahan burst onto the prep scene earlier this year with some remarkable performances in league and regional meets, but she saved her best for last - the Division III state meet in Sulphur.

And she did it twice.

Swimming in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries, Trahan swam a 24.65 to break the Division III state record and advance to the finals. The previous record (24.74) was set by Lauren Nash of Parkview Baptist in 2001.

Trahan then broke her own record in the finals with a time of 24.51 to win the event.

Notre Dame junior Sarah Simar also brought home a state title in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 59.09. Trahan was the runnerup in the event in a time of 1:00.07.

Simar also placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.25).

Trahan and Simar also teamed with Emily Lawson and Peyton Zaunbrecher in the 400-yard freestyle relay and placed ninth with a time of 4:20.80.

On the boys’ side, Notre Dame’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Cody LeBlanc, Nick Moore, Zach Trahan and Joshua Kilgore logged a 15th-place finish with a time of 4:26.57.

Also competing in the preliminaries were junior Hans Prevost (100-yard backstroke, freshman Josh Kilgore (200 freestyle and 500 freestyle and freshman Emily Lawson (200 freestyle), all of whom recorded personal best times in their respective events.

Other Notre Dame swimmers attending the state meet included Ashley Wright, Leah Dailey, Chad Marks, Lindsey LeBlanc, Jenna Smith and Taylor Haure.
