Two-war vet, engineering professor

METAIRIE – Services for two-war veteran and Tulane Emeritus Professor of Engineering Chester Peyronnin, Jr. will be Tuesday. He died Dec. 12 at age 87.

He was a US Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a former Chicago, Ill. firefighter and was on the faculty of Tulane University as professor of mechanical engineering for 42 years. Working with the Corps of Engineers, he helped redesign the southwest pass of the Mississippi River and working with Chrysler was involved in the Saturn launch vehicle, which helped put man on the moon. He also taught fencing at Tulane for more than 20 years.

Survivors include two sons.

Arrangements are by Lake Lawn.

Fine arts professor

BATON ROUGE – Services for Southern University retired professor of fine arts Van Chambers, Jr. are Monday. He died Dec. 11 at age 72.

Survivors include his wife Pat and two sons.

Arrangements are by Wilson Wooddale.
