The bride is the daughter of Corliss and Larre Butler of Crowley. She is the granddaughter of Marie Monceaux and the late Gordy Monceaux, and Aloysia Butler and the late Larre F. Butler, all of Crowley.
Sasha graduated from Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish in 2003 before obtaining an associate’s degree in computer technology from Louisiana State University at Eunice in 2007. She also obtained certification as a pharmacy technician from Louisiana Technical College in 2010.
The groom is the son of Selina Shamsie and the late Paul Shamsie of Estherwood. He is the grandson of Francis and Howard Nugent Sr., the late James A. Shamsie, and the late Lou Anna Gaspard Monceaux, all of Estherwood.
Clayton is a 2002 graduate of Benton Junior-Senior High and is currently employed by ENI Petroleum as a logistical coordinator.
Guests were ushered to their seats by Luke Butler and Frankie Butler, brothers of the bride.
Escorted by her father, Sasha was a beautiful bride in a full-length ivory satin gown with a classic A-line silhouette and a satin sash defining the natural waistline. The fitted bodice featured a sweetheart neckline and a floral lace overlay, adorned in its entirety with beads and sequins, that gave the effect of a bateau neckline. The skirt’s ruffled, multi-tiered silk organza overlay flowed gracefully from the waistline. The back of the bodice was secured with a satin-covered button closure, and the back of the skirt flowing elegantly into a court train.
The bride’s fanciful bouquet included a large, festive leopard-print poinsettia surrounded by smaller red poinsettias and interspersed with gold embellishments. The stems were hand-tied in gold ribbon, and the bride’s great-grandfather’s pocket watch bearing the family crest hung from the base.
For luck, the bride carried or wore each of four traditional items. Her great-grandfather’s pocket watch was “something old,” her wedding dress was “something new,” a diamond bracelet lent by her mother was “something borrowed” and blue rhinestones spelling “I do” on the bottoms of her shoes were “something blue.”
Amy Helo, friend of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Katie Dupont and Bethany Fabre, friends of the bride; and Caitlin Shamsie, sister of the groom.
The attendants wore vivid red floor-length gowns of varying patterns in keeping with their personal styles. They carried bouquets of ivory poinsettias interspersed with greenery and gold embellishments and hand-tied with red ribbon and jingle bells.
Gracelyn Butler, daughter of the bride and groom, served as flower girl. She was adorable in a sleeveless ivory satin dress with tulle-overlaid tea-length skirt. A vibrant red flower in her hair matched her sparkling ruby red Mary Janes with bow embellishments.
Ernest “Boo” Istre, friend of the groom, served as best man. Standing for Clayton as groomsman were his friends Bryson Louvierre and Stephen Chiasson; and his cousin, Josh Nugent.
Gatlin Nugent, cousin of the groom, served as ring bearer.
For Sasha’s wedding day, her mother, the former Corliss Monceaux, selected an elegant two-piece ensemble. The ivory crinkle crush jacket featured a V-neckline and a wrap-around side closure adorned with a black silk flower. The look was completed with a long, flowing black skirt.
The mother of the groom, the former Selina Nugent, chose a sleeveless full-length gown in violet silk. The jewel neckline and upper bodice were beautifully embellished with beads, sequins and crystals. Asymmetrical bands of mini-pleats crisscrossed at the front for a defined waistline from which the full, gathered skirt flowed freely.
Immediately following the ceremony, the newlywed couple celebrated with a reception on-site at The Crossing.
The reception hall was decorated to reflect the love and joy of the Christmas season. Guest tables were topped with vases of large red poinsettias, lighted branches and greenery and childhood photographs of the bride and groom at Christmas.
The bride’s four-tiered cake was decorated with buttercream icing and featured oreo and amaretto fillings. The base of the confection was surrounded by leopard-print and red poinsettias, and each tier was wrapped with red ribbon. The cake was topped by a gold initial “S” and served by the bride’s father. A separate anniversary cake was frozen for the bride and groom.
The groom’s cake was shaped and decorated as a shotgun shell. It was filled with strawberry cream and surrounded by chocolate-covered strawberries. It was set before a photograph of the bride and groom dressed in camouflage clothing. The groom’s godmother, Becky Istre, was server.
Guests were also treated to a variety of homemade candies that the women of the bride’s and groom’s families had gathered together to make.
Out-of-town guests traveled from various points across the state, including Shreveport, Lake Charles and Baton Rouge.
On the evening prior to the wedding, he mother of the groom hosted a reception dinner at her home in Estherwood.
Following a wedding trip to St. Lucia, the couple will reside in Crowley.
