LAFAYETTE – Services are Monday for clothing company owner and civic leader Harold Abdalla. He died Dec. 29 at age 70.
He worked in the family business of Abdalla’s and was founder and owner of Abform Workwear. He was a past board member of several organizations.
Survivors include his wie Elizabeth and a daughter.
Arrangements are by Martin & Castille.
Former school superintendent
NEW ROADS – Services for retired Iberville school superintendent Wallace Davis will be Wednesday. He died Dec. 29 at age 70.
He was a former teacher, coach and principal as well as superintendent. He began his teaching career as a brother of the Sacred Heart Order in New Jersey.
Survivors include two sons and three daughters.

Pioneering newspaper librarian
BATON ROUGE – Services for pioneering newspaper librarian Lula Thomas will be Thursday. She died Dec. 29 at age 93.
She was director of the library at Baton Rouge newspapers for more than 30 years. She was an early leader in developing the electronic news research database as computers were introduced to the newspaper industry. She was among the writers of Guidelines for Newspaper Libraries published for the American Newspaper Publishers Assn.
Survivors include two sons.

BATON ROUGE – Services for former retailer and seniors advocate JoPaul Steiner are Monday. He died Dec/ 28 at age 96.
He owned furniture stores and then was an insurance agent before retiring. He was a initial organizer of the Senior Olympics in Louisiana. He was a member of the US Masters Swimming Team for 18 years and held records in Australia and Great Britain.
Survivors include his wife Sylvia, a son and two daughters.
Former newscaster, D-Day vet
MONROE – Services for former D-Day veteran and former newscaster John McCarthy will be Wednesday. He died at age 91.
He served in intelligence campaigns at Normandy, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe with the US Army during World War II. In the 1950s and 1960s he was the premier TV newscaster in Northeast Louisiana.
