Tribune names 2012 football winner

Representing Gossen Funeral Home, Jarrod Gardiner was named winner of the 2012 Annual Rayne Acadian-Tribune’s Football Prognosticators Contest, a race that was up for grabs until the very last week of picks.

Following 15 weeks of football action, Gardiner finished the contest with a 140-55 tally or 72% selection rate.

In a very close second was Daniel Simoneaux of Farmer’s True Value Hardware with a 71% selection rate with a final score of 139-56.

Third place was Wayne Gautreaux of Sunbelt Motors who finished his picks at 67% and a 130-65 score.

Fourth place was shared by Dr. Jim Rumore of Acadia Animal Medical Center and Kevin Cahanin representing Service Chevrolet. Each finished their selections with a 126-69 score or 65%.

A three-way tie was seen at sixth place shared by Ronnie Richard of Gary Matte Builders, Curtis Darby of Eastside Custom and Guy Simon of People’s Credit Union (125-70 or 64%).

Finishing out the list of prognosticators were:

9th place - Jeff Meche of Jeff Meche Electric (123-72).

10th place - Josh LaGrange of Shetler Corley (121-74).

11th place - Mike Doucet of Don Shetler (118-77).

12th place - Eric Thomas of The Crawfish Hut (116-79).

13th place - Donnie Venable of Sterling Ford (114-81).

This year’s contest was held for 15 weeks, the entire time a local team was included in football action.
