Jeremiah Wright, 31, of Thibodaux, must be deemed mentally competent before he can stand trial on charges he decapitated 7-year-old Jori Lirette last year.
Prosecutors say the hearing, originally scheduled for Thursday, has been re-set for Jan. 29 at the request of the defense.
Wright remains in the Lafourche Parish jail on a first-degree murder charge in lieu posting of a $5 million bond.
