FRANKLIN – A chihuahua that stopped traffic on the Morgan City La. 182 Bridge on the morning of Dec. 20 is still looking for a home, as of Friday afternoon, after being taken to the St. Mary Parish Animal Shelter in Franklin.

The dog was found with a blue sweater on, and no one claimed the dog within the seven-day time period the shelter is required to hold an animal, according to employees at the shelter. Because the owner of the dog has not come forward, the dog is now available for adoption.

There is no set time period for how long the shelter will keep the dog, and the decision is up to the supervisor, according to an employee at the animal shelter.

Around Christmas time the shelter normally sees more adoptions and thus has more room for pets, but after Christmas the amount of stray pets they take in is sporadic, the employee said.

Anyone interested in adopting the dog or any other animal at the St. Parish Animal Shelter in Franklin can call 337-828-4646.
