If confessed killer Brandon Scott Lavergne is going to be a jailhouse lawyer he has to follow proper court procedure.

Because the admitted killer of Mickey Shunick and Lisa Pate did not file the right paperwork, 15th Dist. Judge Herman Clause sent his motion to vacate his guilty plea to two counts of first degree murder back to Lavergne.

In his hand-written motion, Lavergne claimed he felt pressured to take a plea deal to avoid possible execution if convicted of the killings.

Last August, he admitted to killing Shunick, 21, after grabbing her while she rode her bicycle home late one May night in Lafayette.

He also confessed to the 1999 death of Lisa Pate and is now serving mandatory life in Angola.

In his motion, Lavergne, 34, alleges authorities leaked information to the media to increase the glare of pre-trial publicity and to convince Lavergne he couldn’t mount a proper defense.

Lavergne confessed to stabbing Shunick after she first stabbed him with his own knife in the cab of his pickup truck.

He said he thought she was dead and drove to an Acadia Parish field to dump the body. Once there, Shunick, Lavergne said in his confession, attacked again with the knife and he shot her in the head with a handgun.
