LAFAYETTE - Ragin' Cajuns baseball alum Jonathan Lucroy is set to represent Team USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. The current Milwaukee Brewers catcher made the announcement on Thursday.

Lucroy, who starred for the Ragin' Cajuns from 2005-07, has solidified his spot as the Brewers starting catcher since making his major league debut in May 2010.

Last season, Lucroy posted a .320 average and produced 12 home runs and 58 RBI in 96 games of an injury shortened season (hand injury in May). When he returned from injury in late July, he batted .299 (53-177, 7hr, 28rbi) and helped the Brewers make a last season push for the playoffs (record rose from 44-54 to 83-79).

Lucroy will step away from Brewers spring training at Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix, Ariz., in early March to play in the Classic. The United State's first round action in the 2013 edition of the World Baseball Classic is set for March 9-10 at Chase Field in Phoenix.

Lucroy ended his UL career fourth on the batting average list with a .356 clip and second all-time with 241 base hits. He also finished first in career doubles (54) and third in career homeruns (35). He still ranks as the Cajuns' career RBI leader (184) and total bases (414).
