CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Lady Pios didn’t let the disappointment of their first league defeat earlier in the week get them down.

Just the opposite, in fact.

The Lady Pios, who lost to South Beauregard earlier in the week, got back on the winning track Friday and in impressive fashion with a 71-12 rout of Jennings at A.B. Dore gym.

The Lady Pios, playing in front of a packed house for Senior Night, improved to 20-5 overall and 5-1 in District 4-3A play with the victory.

“What impressed me the most tonight is the way we shot the basketball,” said Notre Dame coach Nolan Theriot, whose team drained 10 3-pointers on the night.

“After Tuesday’s game, we went back to the drawing board and we worked on every 3-on-3 defensive drill that I’ve picked up over the last 20 years. We didn’t shoot the basketball at all on Wednesday so to shoot as well as we did tonight after not shooting it much at all the last two day, that was impressive.”

The Lady Pios came out firing Friday and put 22 points on the board in the first quarter before settling for just six in the second.

They opened it back up in the third quarter with 24 more points and closed out the game with 19 points in the fourth.

Theriot’s squad was equally as impressive on defense.

The Lady Pios limited Jennings to just four points in the first half and gave up eight in the second.

“Jennings is struggling a bit this year, but to go out at the end of the third quarter and you’re up 52-7; to hold any team to seven points in three quarters is impressive,” said Theriot, who played all of his seniors in the final frame. “The girls had a lot of focus and they worked the gameplan.

“It’s one thing when you have five starters in there, but it’s another thing when you have five kids in there that don’t necessarily play as often and they’re working and really holding down another team.”

Offensively, Liddy Rothermel drilled four 3-pointers and led the Lady Pios with 14 points. Tori Onebane added 11 points, Sam Lyons had 10 and Alex Miller had eight.

Also contributing in the victory were Annie Sarver with six points; Gabbie Romero, 5; Elizabeth Dartez, Elise LeBeouf and Madelyn LeJeune each with four; Hanna Esthay, three and Katherine Kirsch with two.

IOWA YELLOW JACKETS 38

IOWA – Tiara Dugar went off for 26 points to help lead the Crowley Ladies to a convincing 4-3A victory over the Iowa Lady Yellow Jackets in a District 4-3A contest Friday evening.

Dugar torched the nets for 10 points in the first quarter and Crowley jumped out to a commanding 21-8 lead.

The Ladies eased back in the middle frames and scored 21 more points to increase their advantage to 42-24.

They picked up the pace again in the fourth quarter and outscored Iowa 18-14 behind seven points from Mercedes Rogers.

Rogers finished the night with 19 points while Alanna Plummer had seven. Myah Rogers added four points, Raven Ardoin had two and Nykelia Winters scored one.

BUNKIE LADY PANTHERS 32

  BUNKIE – The Iota Lady Bulldogs went on a 20-4 run in the third quarter and cruised past Bunkie Friday evening in a District 5-2A road contest.

The Lady Dogs improved to 9-16 overall and 4-1 in league play with the victory.

Bunkie, looking for just their third victory of the season, kept the game close early on and trailed 13-8 after the first quarter.

Iota outscored the Lady Panthers 18-10 in the second quarter before their offensive outburst in the third frame.

Brittany Johnson led the Lady Dogs with 14 points and Mallory Faul followed with 12. Taylor DeVille and Jillian Boone each pitched in 11 points, Alexis St. Andre had four, Paige Soirez and Madison Smith each scored three and Cambri St. Andre finished with two.

BUNKIE – The Iota Bulldogs outscored Bunkie 17-11 in the fourth quarter to slip away with a narrow victory Friday evening.

Luke Reed had the hot hand for the Dogs and poured in a team-high 16 points. Tristan Fontenot followed wtih eight points, Kyle Smith, Zach Hebert and Garrett Reppond each added seven points, Deandre Curtis had four and Cade Hebert had one.
