The show, entitled “Doll-E-Monroe, ‘Silhouettes, Circles, and Stories’,” is a must-see.
Essentially two shows in one, the collection of artwork encompasses both abstract, dance-inspired pieces and realistic portraits of people and places depicting the history of African-Americans in the South.
All of the pieces in the collection, both abstract and realistic, are intriguing, inviting viewers to speculate and daydream about their subjects.
It is easy to become mesmerized while standing before “The Art of Burlesque I” or “A Midwife’s Cabin.”
Monroe’s art opens one’s imagination as well as one’s eyes.
The show is comprised of a total of 23 pieces, most of which are acrylic paintings. Monroe is generous with her use of varying media, however, and the result is phenomenal.
Monroe, who was born and raised in Crowley and graduated from Crowley High School, holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Houston.
“Silhouettes, Circles, and Stories” will run at The Gallery throughout the month of March.
