Arnaudville — For a town not exactly known for its traffic jams, the streets of Arnaudville were filled almost to capacity for the semiannual “7-Mile Garage Sale” on Saturday, March 15. The title of the event refers to the seven-mile stretch of Highway 93 between Grand Coteau and Arnaudville. The highway was packed with bargain hunters and items ranging from antiques to homemade soap and barbeque burgers.

Sponsored by the Arnaudville Chamber of Commerce, the garage sale attracted vendors and customers from throughout Acadiana.

Both shops and individuals decided to clean out their closets, showcase their inventory, or use their talents to create new items for sale. Particularly appetizing were the variety of homemade preserves and pickles that appeared from home kitchens. The smell of charcoal and freshly barbequed burgers was making everyone’s mouth water as they strolled underneath the trees and into the shops.

Everything from the grounds of Le Petit Cadeau to the parking lot at Myran’s Maison du Manger was filled with customers. An added treat at Cypress City Antiques was the appraisal service offered by Dan Peck, retired antique dealer from Breaux Bridge. For a minimum fee, customers could bring items from their attics or closets to checkout their value.

The next “7-Mile Garage Sale” is scheduled for July 19. For more information call Dr. John Daigre, 322-1404.
