This is the second unsuccessful recall drive against Morris since he took office in January 2007. The first ended last July.
The most-recent recall papers were filed by Sanford Wood, an LSU at Eunice professor, and Joan Hernandez, a retired professor. Neither could be reached for comment today.
Signature by one-third of the registered voters in a particular district is required to validate the recall. In this case, that is about 2,200 petitioners.
If a recall drive meets the signatures requirement, an election is called to ask voters if they want to recall the official in question.
If voters say yes, the official relinquishes the post in question and a special election is held to fill it.
Morris has declined to comment on the recall
