Three Arrested in I-10 Traffic Stop

On Thursday, April 10, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop I Criminal Patrol units stopped a vehicle on I-10, within St. Martin Parish, when troopers observed a red 2008 Ford pick up truck, commit a traffic violation. Troopers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the occupants who were identified as Rodney Nicholson of Georgia, Albert Nicholson of Georgia and Onesimo Rios of Texas. After speaking to the occupants, Troopers became suspicious of their trip and requested written consent to search the vehicle. Consent was granted and the subsequent search resulted in 38.22 pounds of marijuana hidden inside bags of mulch in the bed of the pick-up truck. All three occupants were arrested and transported to West District Narcotics for follow up investigation. Agents learned that the drugs were picked up in Houston, Texas, and destined for Atlanta, Ga. One of the suspects cooperated, while the other two claimed having no knowledge of the drugs. All three suspects were later booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center for Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana.
