The City Council on Tuesday night tabled the proposed 2008-09 budget until it can prepare and consider amendments, including one stripping a pay raise for Mayor Bob Morris from the document.

A majority appeared more interested in a proposal to raise the mayor's pay and council members pay effective with the next term of office.

Councilmembers, after considerable discussion, seemed to lean also toward providing a 3 percent across-the-the board pay raise rather than selective raises proposed by the administration.

If a new budget is not adopted by July 1, the city can proceed in its next fiscal year under terms of the current year budget, less 50 percent.
