Police identified the men as Eric Bourgeois and Stacy Stevens.
The 11:30 p.m. Sunday in South East Street is still under investigation.
The initial complaint incorrectly said the incident occured at a nearby night spot.
Apparently the shooting stemmed from an earlier incident involving the two men in which one bumped into another at a different site.
Sunday night, police said, Bougeois allegedly approached Stevens in the street and shot him.
Stevens then turned on Bougeois and in the ensuing scuffle shot Bougeois with Bougeois' gun, officers said.
No charges have yet been filed in the case.
