RAYNE – Rayne Chief of Police Carroll Stelly announced Tuesday that his officers had arrested a Rayne High student on the Rayne High School grounds and have charged him with numerous felony offenses including narcotics and weapons charges.

On Thursday October 23, Rayne Patrol officers along with a K-9 officer were conducting a search of the student parking lot when K-9 “Blaze” alerted on the passenger’s door of a Silver Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The subsequent search yielded illegal narcotics and several weapons including a Taurus 9 m.m. pistol, a Keltec 9 m.m. pistol and a set of brass knuckles.

Rayne officers arrested Asa Drake Johnson, 17.

Bond was set by City Judge Jim Cunningham.

Asa Johnson was charged with:

• Illegal concealment of a firearm with a narcotic, with bond set at $25,000;

• Possession of Schedule 1 narcotics – marijuana, with bond set at $10,000;

• One count - possession of a firearm in a Firearm Free Zone, with bond set at $5,000;

• One count - possession of a firearm in a Firearm Free Zone, with bond set at $5,000;

• One count – possession of narcotics in a Drug-Free Zone, with bond set at $5,000; and

• Possession of an illegal weapon (brass knuckles), with bond set at $5,000.
