There will be no school in Vermilion Parish today thanks to the national election. However, the post office is open and mail will be delivered.

The schools are closed because 15 parish schools, elementary and high schools, are being used as voting precincts.

On the ballot will be the presidential race. The top of the ticket belongs to Louisiana’s U.S. Senate race. Democratic incumbent Mary Landrieu is seeking a third term, challenged by Republican state Treasurer John Kennedy.

Part of Vermilion Parish voters will be deciding on the state representative race between Maurice’s own Troy Theriot and Nancy Landry, a lawyer from Lafayette.

There is a U.S. Representative race between Charles Boustany, Don Cravins and Peter Vidrine.

Also on the ballot are seven state amendments.

Voting will take place from 6 a.m.. to 8 p.m..
