St. Martinville — On Nov. 12, St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s deputies conducted a vehicle stop on I-10 at mile post 117 east bound for several traffic violations. Criminal indicators led the deputy to believe that the vehicle may contain illegal contraband. The deputy and his K-9 conducted an exterior search of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted on the vehicle indicating that illegal narcotics were present. Upon searching the vehicle, deputies located approximately 33 pounds of suspected marijuana inside of a suitcase. The driver was identified as Stephen Tate, 53, of San Antonio, Texas. The estimated value of the seized narcotics was valued at approximately $25,000.
He was booked in the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:
