Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Rose Sumrall to the District 5 seat for the Town of Amite City Council that was left vacant by the resignation of Charles “Boo” Christmas.

Due to the lack of a quorum, the Town of Amite was unable to fill the vacant seat within the ten day period they are afforded by statute. According to the Secretary of State’s office, under the law, the Governor then becomes the appointing authority.

Rose Sumrall, of Amite, is co-owner and vice president of Mike’s Catfish Inn, Inc., a southern cuisine restaurant. Sumrall was appointed to serve in the 5th District council seat at the request of the Secretary of State’s Office, in accordance with statute.
