Survivors include a son, Elmer Melancon and wife Connie of the Higginbotham Community; a son-in-law, Louby Faulk of Crowley; five brothers, Elmo Melancon, Joe Melancon and Clovis Melancon-all of Hampshire, Texas, Rodney Melancon of New Iberia and Purvis Melancon of Iowa; five grandchildren, Paul, Blaine and Sherry Faulk and Nathan and Dustin Melancon. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Joshua, Christopher, McKenzie and Kadence Faulk and Hunter, Justin and Skye Wagers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabella “Belle” Savoy Melancon; his parents, Romelous “Jack” and Lena Credeur Melancon; his daughter, Patty Melancon Faulk; his brothers, Murphy, Eraste, Ervin, Andrus, Edmond and Raymond Melancon; a sister, Sarah Melancon Richard; two stepbrothers, Romelous Melancon and L.C. Melancon; and two stepsisters, Ezola Melancon Matte and Trixie Walker Hebert.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 8 a.m. Friday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary was held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday by Fr. Bordelon.
Mr. Melancon was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony before the services on Friday.
