Fontenot thanks Pine Prairie for its assistance

Dear Editor,

My name is Deborah Fontenot and I live just north of Pine Prairie on Highway 13. I’m not a native of Evangeline Parish, but my husband’s family is and have been here since the homestead days.

A couple of months ago I started feeling funny and thought I was having a heart attack. I started driving myself to Mamou and stopped in Pine Prairie to ask for a police escort to the hospital. The policeman happened to be talking to a paramedic when I stopped. They would not let me drive myself and they called for assistance. Within a few minutes, there must have been a dozen or so people there to help. They never left my side until the ambulance arrived.

That experience showed me why Pine Prairie and Evangeline Parish have a reputation of having wonderful and caring citizens. I was scared to death and all of you who were there helped to put me at ease.

After treatment and further tests in Alexandria, I discovered I had two artery blockages and had to have a stent inserted into my heart.

I want to sincerely thank the policeman and responders from Pine Prairie for the attention I was given and as far as I’m concerned, you all saved my life. Huge hugs and kisses to all of you. I apologize for not knowing your names, but I do hope you read this and remember it is from my heart to each of you.

Deborah Gallier Fontenot
