CROWLEY – As we usher in the new year this evening, many Acadia Parish residents will be buying and using fireworks. Crowley Fire Department urges residents to use caution while participating in all activities involving fireworks.
Fire captain Chad Monceaux offers a few pointers on fireworks safety, which include: 1. Read the label on each firework. 2. Always have an adult present. 3. Only buy from reliable sources, such as stands. 4. Only use fireworks outdoors. 5. Always have a bucket of water within reach. 6. Never experiment or make your own fireworks. 7. Only light one firework at time. 8. Be careful around duds. Never re-light them, and wait a few minutes before soaking. 9. Do not let children light fireworks-it is better for them to watch from a safe distance. 10. Soak leftover fireworks before throwing them away. 11. Never point a firework at someone. 12. Don’t carry them in your pocket.
“Also,” reminded Monceaux, “never pop fireworks inside city limits, and remember to pick up trash after you are finished.”
Keeping these tips in mind will assure that everyone will have a Happy New Year.
