CROWLEY – In a short ceremony in the Acadia Parish Courthouse, Russel Benoit was sworn in for his seventh term as Acadia Parish’s Tax Assessor.

“This is my seventh term and I promise you it will be my last,” said a smiling Benoit as those in attendance laughed. “I want to thank you for coming and I wish all of you a Happy New Year.”

Not even an injury to his foot, which obviously hobbled Benoit during the ceremony, could dampen the event or Benoit’s proud demeanor . Benoit took time out to praise his entire staff as well as Mike Goss, who was sworn in as Acadia’s Assistant Tax Assessor.

Among those in attendance were Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, District Judge John Trahan (who still had a big afternoon ahead), and Judge Barrett Harrington.

Following the ceremony guests were treated to some wonderful food including boudin, rice dressing, fried chicken, and a freshly carved turkey.

Benoit ran unopposed in the last election securing his position. His reputation for being fair and equal as well as his popularity probably had much to do with his lack of opposition.
