The victim has been identified as 88-year-old Elwood McGee of New Iberia.
According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, his office received a call shortly before noon Wednesday, Jan. 21, when the body of the New Iberia man was discovered by a family member at his ranch on Pitreville Hwy near Church Point.
Melancon said investigators with his Criminal Investigations Division have learned that the victims truck described as a 2002 GMC pickup, gray in color bearing Louisiana License W200634 was taken from the residence and may be driven by a suspect.
The Rapides Parish Office Criminal Investigations Division was contacted for assistance after Acadia Parish investigators obtained information that a suspect, could possibly be in the Alexandria area.
Thursday afternoon, Aaron Leday was apprehended on an outstanding non-related warrant by the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Alexandria Police Department and a U. S. Marshall’s Joint Task Force Team.
Acadia Parish investigators traveled to Alexandria Thursday afternoon and questioned LeDay.
As a result of that interview, LeDay was charged with first degreee murder.
LeDay was transported back to the Acadia Parish Jail and his bond was set at $750,000 by District Judge Glenn Everette.
