A juvenile known to the clerk he was threatening held up a Eunice convenience store with what turned out to be a hammer.

When the young man walked into the store at La. 29 & La. 13 about 1:30 p.m. he brandished a bag containing what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money, it was reported.

Fleeing on foot, he dropped the bag, which allegedly turned out to contain a hammer, not a gun.

Sherfiff's deputies and city marshals pursued the suspect on foot, but he eluded them.

Acting on a tip about two hours later, officers arrested the juvenile at a residence on West Peach. He was turned over to the St. Landry Sheriff's Dept. His age was not available.
