Morris Julien of Rayne was honored on Saturday, Dec. 27, during a special party held in honor of his 103rd birthday.

Mr. Julien was born Dec. 28, 1905 in the Rayne-Duson area to Sylvester and former Louise Duhon Julien.

He survives his two wives, the former Della Batiste and the former Josephine Mouton, who are both deceased.

He also survives his only child, a daughter, Eunice Julian-Carter of Houston, who passed on earlier this year.

His siblings were the late John,Lawrence, Phillip, Colombus, Mickey, Albert, Foster, Tracey and Lovenia.

Hosts for the afternoon social were the honoree’s nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Guests were served the honoree’s favorite, gumbo, along with meatballs and sausage, sandwiches, deviled eggs, hot wings, chips and dips, punch and ice tea.

Also enjoyed was a large birthday cake. The square white confection was accented with light blue decorations and white trim work.

Entertainment was provided by his nephews, Sylvester Julien, Norris Julien and Daniel Figaro, who told jokes for the family members and friends in attendance.

Along with the many gifts the honoree received for his birthday, Mr. Julien was presented an oversized rocker-recliner by his nieces and nephews.

Special guest in attendance for the birthday celebration was the honorees’s niece, Ida Hebert, age 96, of Beaumont, Texas.

Other guests attended from numerous points of Louisiana and Texas.
