The LSU at Eunice Lady Bengals split a series with fourth-ranked Copiah-Lincoln in a softball doubleheader Monday.

LSUE exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning and won the first game 9-0 before falling 6-4 in the finale.

Lindsey Babin reached on an error to begin the game and later scored on another Co-Lin miscue for the first run of the contest.

Hayley Sanchez hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning as the Lady Bengals jumped ahead 2-0.

After a scoreless third frame, LSUE put the game away in the bottom of the fourth inning begun when Sanchez hit her second roundtripper of the contest.

Rachael Tripp reached on an error and then scored when Babin blasted a home run.

Ashley Parr and Chasity Fontenot rapped back-to-back singles and Parr scored on Chasity Gary’s RBI single.

Rhea Person cleared the bases with a home run to cap off the surge and seal the 9-0 win.

In the finale, Co-Lin grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the third when Danielle Wilson and Holli Smith both singled and scored.

LSUE closed the gap to 2-1 when Babin homered in the bottom of the third.

Fontenot tied the game 2-2 with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth frame.

The Lady Wolves exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh to push ahead 6-2.

Wilson and Smith both singled and Becca Boone’s RBI scored Wilson for a 3-2 lead. Monea Cameron belted a triple to score Smith and Boone for a 5-2 advantage.

Kate Stewart singled in Cameron to close out the scoring for Co-Lin.

Trailing by four runs, Kim St. Amant and Babin hit back-to-back home runs to help the Lady Bengals close the gap to 6-4 but the rally fell short with three straight infield outs.

Babin’s three home runs on the day fell just short of Kami Hebert’s four-home run performance in a doubleheader on March 12, 2008 against Lamar. Babin was the other Lady Bengal in that series to hit a home run.

LSUE finished with eight round-trippers against Co-Lin, passing last’s year’s five home runs against Lamar.
