On Friday, March 13, 2009, seven LAHS Drama Club students traveled to Lake Charles Boston Academy to participate in the McNeese State University Speech Rally. Five students competed in Interpretive Reading and two students competed in Radio Speaking. Participants included seniors, Bethami Chiasson, Interpretive Reading - "Independent Woman"; and Paris LeBlanc, Interpretive Reading - "Phenomenal Woman" ; juniors, Ashalun Brown, Interpretive Reading - "Beautiful Black Woman";Ethan Cormier, Radio Speaking; Devante Duhon, Radio Speaking; Shawntae Randolph, Interpretive Reading - "Men"; and Angelle Robinson, Interpretive Reading - "Still I Rise."

Three of these students: Ashalun Brown, Shawntae Randolph, and Angelle Robinson will advance to compete at the State Speech Rally at LSU. Angelle Robinson placed 1st in in Interpretive Reading; Ashalun Brown placed 2nd in Interpretive Reading; Devante Duhon placed 3rd in Radio Speaking; Shawntae Robinson finished 4th in Interpretive Reading; Ethan Cormier finished 4th in Radio Speaking; Paris LeBlanc finished 5th in Interpretive Reading; and Bethami Chiasson finished 7th in Interpretive Reading.

These students are to be commended for their extraordinary efforts. LAHS will travel to McNeese State University on Friday, March 20, 2009, to compete in Play Rally and will be performing their one-act play titled "Three on a Bench." Students featured in this play will be Ashalun Brown, Trey Dugas, Devante Duhon,and Auldon "Rob" Robinson, Jr.

On April 5, 2009, LAHS will compete with two one-act plays in the Thelma Richard High School Showcase at the Strand Theater in Jennings, LA.
