A Eunice man initially charged with attempting to kill two St. Landry Parish deputies during a dope sting in September 2007 is now set for trial on lesser charges in July.

Stevie Arvy, 20, of 122 East Ardoin tried to back over a deputy after realizing he was in the middle of a drug sting near Harris Park, according to initial allegations. The deputy shot the rear tires out on the truck.

Arvy, it was alleged, then tried to run over a deputy standing in front of the pickup and the deputy shot out the vehicle’s front tires.

The suspect then drove off in the crippled truck and was caught shortly thereafter.

He was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, distribution of cocaine, two counts of resisting, simple kidnapping and reckless operation.

The basis of the kidnapping charge was never established in information released to the public.

In November 2008, Arvie pleaded not guilty to the cocaine and resisting charges.

The record does not indicate a bill on the other charges was ever filed.

Judge Alonzo Harris initially set jury selection and trial for March, but that was reset for July 7.
