A total of 12,478 doses of polio serum were administered at the most recent mass immunization here, most of them on sugar cubes. That brings to more than 24,000 the number of doses given at the Eunice Health Unit.
A proposed state junior college for Eunice was the main topic of conversation at a joint meeting of the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. State Rep. Alton Durand was on-hand to answer questions.
Chief Adam Daigle said that beginning May 1 all loose-running dogs will be picked up and impounded. Five children have been bitten this month by stray canines.
The St. Edmund track team relay teams this spring consist of Jebby Montz, Mike Manuel, Pat Manuel, Jimmie Lee, Stephen Guillory, Freddie Fruge and on the longer runs possibly Ken Reed, Nilas Young and Ken Lejeune.
W.H. Kessler, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Kessler of 710 South 3rd, has been named head of Southern Bell’s commercial engineering functions in Mississippi. He is a Signal Corps veteran of World War II.
E.J. Montz is closing his Roosevelt Restaurant, a Second Street landmark and coffee shop at month’s end. He has sold the property to Mr. and Mrs. Dan LaHaye, who will move their Tot-N-Teen business there. Montz opened his shop in 1940.
Twelve sites have been offered for the proposed new $1 million Eunice High School. The most-recent is the Lawrence Amy property near Highland Elementary. The Arnold Ledoux heirs are offering that property south of Eunice free of charge. It is near the new city airport.
Pelican State delegates this year from St. Edmund High will be Mary Lynn Atteberry, Darlene Fruge, Jim Watson and Robert Courville. Delegates from Eunice High will be Roberta West, Cynthia Fink, Freddie Lowe and Benny Darby.
Senior personalities at Eunice High are Emma Self, most likely to succeed; Jo Ann Quirk, friendliest girl; Mike Elaine Mangham, most loyal girl; Sue Lowe, most outstanding girl; Dwight Verges, most likely to succeed; Duffy Harris, friendliest boy; and Van Ardoin, most loyal and most outstanding boy.
Ira Garcell was elected commodore of the Eunice Boat Club during a meeting at the Boat House. Herman Guillory is vice commodore. Nick Ferro is cruise master.
