Solitic was founded in 198 by a group of ladies from Crowley who wished to be part of the Louisiana Federation of Women’s Clubs. The purpose of the organization remains social, literary and civic. It is a testament to the original charter members that Solitic remains a strong and highly effective ladies club in Crowley.
The current Solitic Club has continued many of the traditions of the original organization. Each month, the club members meet to plan a civic event, participate in a club social activity, or attend a club function. Each month has a theme.
Some of the past monthly themes include “Entertaining with Ease”, “Modern Medicine and Mommy Magic”, and “Hawaii- Our New Sister- Alaska and Hawaii”.
Themes for this year’s meetings included “Pilates” and “Digital Scrapbooking”. This year, the club participated in a first annual Christmas fundraiser at the Grand Old Opera House of the South and raised money for various local charities.
The 2008-2009 Solitic Club located many of the yearbooks from the past 50 years, and invitations were mailed to ladies included on the roster.
However, many yearbooks are missing, so if you were an active Solitic member at some point during the past 50 years, and wish to attend the anniversary party, please contact Melissa Williamson (2008-2009 Solitic Club president) at 785-4484.
