Crowley’s Bryant Gilbert slides safely into second base on a steal attempt Friday during the Millers’ 10-2 victory over the Opelousas Seminoles in the opening round of the American Legion Regional Tournament in Lake Charles. The Millers took on Delhomme in a winners bracket contest late last night.

LAKE CHARLES – The third time wasn’t the charm for the Opelousas Seminoles and neither was the fourth.
For the second time in just over a week, and the fourth time overall, the Crowley Millers defeated the Seminoles Friday.
The 10-2 victory lifted the Millers to the second round of the winners bracket in the American Legion Sub-Regional Tournament at the newly renovated Legion Field on the campus of Lake Charles Boston Friday.
The Millers improved to 22-1 on the season with the victory. They took on Lafayette’s Delhomme Drillers last night after the Drillers slipped past Sulphur in their opening contest, 6-5.
Results from last night’s contest were not available at press time.
In their opening contest of the tournament, the Millers used a five-pitcher rotation to get the victory.
Ryan Leonards was credited with the win, giving up one run on three hits. He struck out three in two innings of work.
The Millers got on the board in the first inning, scoring one run when Bryant Gilbert singled, stole second base and scored on a double to left center field by Matt Savoie.
The Seminoles answered in the top of the second when shortstop James Fontenot hit a towering homer over the left field wall to tie the game at 1-1.
The Millers took the lead for good in the third inning courtesy of three errors and one hit.
Leonards led off the frame with a walk and Beau Desselle reached base thanks to an error by Fontenot. Tyler Dupuis then singled before the first two runs of the inning crossed the plate on a throwing error. Blaine Richard and Mitch Corzine each drove in a run on a pair of fielder’s choices to give the Millers a 5-1 advantage.
Leonards and Beau Desselle logged back-to-back hits to start the fourth before Dupuis drove in a run with a single to left field. Desselle crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Savoie to extend the lead to 7-1.
Corzine walked in the fifth inning and scored on a error.
Savoie drove in another run in the sixth with a double to left before Blaine Richard plated a run on an infield single.
Opelousas’ Dylan Rodriguez scored the final run of the game in the eighth inning when he walked and crossed the plate on Crowley’s only error of the game.
Darrin Handy suffered the loss for the Seminoles, giving up four runs on three hits and four walks. He struck out one in three innings.
The Millers banged out 10 hits in the victory.
Savoie led the charge with two hits, both doubles, and three runs driven in while Desselle had two hits, including a double.
Dupuis had two hits and an RBI and Leonards, Bryant Gilbert, Richard and Corzine each had one hit.
In other first-day action, Eunice knocked off the New Iberia Cajuns and Teurlings defeated St. Louis.
Yesterday’s matchups pitted New Iberia against St. Louis and Sulphur against Opelousas in two elimination games.
Eunice took on Teurlings and Crowley played Delhomme in the winner’s bracket.
A victory by Crowley Saturday would have them playing the winner of the the Eunice/Teurlings contest tonight at 7:30 p.m. A loss to the Drillers would have the locals taking on the winner of Saturday’s Sulphur/ Opelousas contest at 4:30 p.m.
