Authorities are still investigating a Wednesday evening accident near Exit 92 (Duson/Mire) that claimed the lives of two women including a Church Point resident.

At approximately 6 p.m., a gray Honda driven by Raymond Keith Scott of Houston was traveling eastbound near the Hwy. 92 marker when he apparently lost control, crossed the median and struck a Dodge Caravan head on in the westbound lane driven by Rebecca Labauve of Church Point. The passenger in Mr. Scott’s car, Ms. Malsoo Atkinson of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Scott and Labauve were transported to area hospitals where Labauve later died as a result of her injuries. Scott remains in critical condition.

The accident remains under investigation by the Duson Police Department. They are being assisted by the Louisiana State Police, the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Rayne Police Department.

Also responding to the crash were the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office, Acadian Ambulance, and the Duson Fire Department.
