A party held Sunday, February 20, 2010 honored Marie B. Denais on her 100th birthday. The centenarian spent her special day surrounded by family and friends at a party held at the home of her great grandson, David Breaux, in Mermentau. Over 100 guests attended Denais’ celebration.

On Sunday, February 28, 2010, a birthday celebration was held in honor of Marie B. Denais in Mermentau at the home of her great grandson, David Breaux along with his wife, Vickie and their four children Lee, Dustin, Dylan, and Megan.

Mrs. Denais was born Marie Lorita Breaux on February 25, 1910, to Laodice and Estella Cormier Breaux of Maurice. Mrs. Denais celebrated with her children, Elmo (Bernida) Hebert of Lafayette, Laura H. (Wilton) Thibodeaux of Crowley, John (Mabel) Hebert of Crowley, and step-daughter, Gene (Harry) Domingue of Lafayette.

Her Grandchildren in attendance were Dianna T. (Ted) Breaux, Gerald (Mark) Thibodeaux, Becky H. (Winston) Petry, A.J. (Missy) Thibodeaux, Paul (Barbara) Daigle, Jr., Paul (Darla) Thibodeaux, Glenn (Sandy) Hebert, Stella T. Peveto, Gregory Hebert, and step-grandchild, Cindy Miller.

Great grandchildren in attendance were, Nannette B. (Mervin) Dupuis, Theresa B. (Greg) Thorne, David (Vickie) Breaux, Brad Thibodeaux, Shelly T. (Brian) Bonnie, Heather T. (Jason) Williams, Victoria Thibodeaux, Adam Thibodeaux, and Gavin Thibodeaux and step-great grandchild, Matthew Miller.

Great great grandchildren in attendance were Taylor Bonnie, Tyler Bonnie, Tanner Bonnie, Lee Breaux, Dustin Breaux, Dylan Breaux, Megan Breaux, Mallory Breaux, Austin Thorne, Ashley Thorne, Mary Thibodeaux, Brad John Thibodeaux, Hunter Williams, Ayden Williams and Ally Williams.

Special guests were Mrs. Denais’ two sisters, Ena Leger of Abbeville, and Eldith Leger of Meaux. There were numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A luncheon was prepared by David Breaux and family. A delicious meal of jambalaya, black-eyed peas with tasso, corn, baked turkey and rolls were served to the guests by Austin Thorne, Lee Breaux, Dustin Breaux, and David Breaux. Tea, lemonade, and cold drinks were also served. For dessert there was fruit salad as well as several cakes to enjoy including German chocolate cake, spice cake, pineapple cake, brownies and carrot cake.

Mrs. Denais’ birthday cake was a marble cake with white whipped icing with pastel roses adorning the entire cake. The writing read: “Happy 100th Birthday Marie B. Denais We love you sew much.” Mrs. Denais was a seamstress for many years in Crowley. On top of the cake, numeric candles of 1-0-0 were placed and lit.

Everyone sang Happy Birthday to Mrs. Denais, better known as Mom-Mom or Mom Joe to her grandchildren. After cake was served, Mrs. Denais opened her gifts.

It was a beautiful day and everyone had a wonderful time. Five generation pictures and group pictures were taken. Mrs. Denais has been blessed with ten grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 39 great great grandchildren. She was also blessed with five step-children and numerous step-grandchildren.

There were approximately 100 guests in attendance, with out of town guests traveling from Crowley, Lafayette, Scott, Mermentau, Jennings, Carlyss, Abbeville, Meaux and Lake Charles.
